Just like you, we stuffed ourselves on too much delicious food yesterday for Thanksgiving. We had a wonderful time catching up with our family members on all the family news. And, we’re enjoying a brief, deep breath before galloping into the end of year holiday adventure. Which means that now it’s time to become even more clear about the focus of these final weeks of the year.
With only a few weeks left before 2014 comes to an end, we have a chance to pause and ask:
“What is the most important outcome I could achieve in these final weeks that would end the year with a bang while having a ton of fun doing it?”
- Is it time for that final project push?
- Is it time to reach out to all your current customers and prospects to connect and say thanks?
- Is it time to make sure your colleagues know how much you enjoy working with them?
- Is it time to make sure your loved ones know what a joy it is to share the fun of this season with them?
While for many of us, this last phase of the year can feel like a flutter of activity carrying us through to the end… we have the ability to intentionally create a focus, and that’s what I want to invite you to do today.
What will be the focus of this last few weeks of the year for you?
Why does answering this question matter? Because part of the key to getting anything done is learning to act intentionally and proactively, rather than simply taking life reactively. “I create my experience of reality,” is one of the key pre-suppositions of my approach to task management.
How much more empowering might it be to approach each day from a place of intentionality and strength rather than feeling like a plastic bag being blown about in the wind.
The first step in creating any change in our lives is to claim our position of being “at cause” for the outcomes and decisions we make. We do this by taking responsibility for what we choose to do and create… I invite you to start living even more intentionally today by answering our key question:

My biggest focus will be to get more rest. I had a bout with a strong virus, and according to my doctor I didn’t allow myself enough time to recuperate. Perhaps my focus should be to be more patient with myself. I am always willing to allow others extra time but not allow myself the same luxury. I want things done yesterday and perfectly and when they aren’t, I give up in exasperation.
