Time to rethink setting SMART Goals
Have you ever set a goal that you didn’t reach by your deadline? How did you feel about it? Probably not so great, right?
Well, I want to help you never have that experience again… by telling you to PITCH OUT your SMART goals!
This is our first episode ever of Chosen Course Insights, and I’m starting with a bold video explaining why you should toss out that old concept of SMART goals and teaching you the more empowering practice that you can use in its place: Vivid Future Accomplishments (VFAs)
Watch and enjoy!
What is your VFA?
Share it in the comments below, and take the first step toward manifesting it in your lived reality by declaring for yourself.
Fabulous Erin! This is so exciting! I love how you’ve up-changed the drill-down requirements around “SMART” goals. This focuses on the spirit of intention as an internal motivator, which then encourages us to exercise our intuitions as a far more reliable navigator. I’m guessing that if our focus comes more from within it is more purposful (motivating) and therefore, ‘achievable.’ Congratulations…can’t wait to hear/learn more!
Thanks Sheila :). Intentionality and connecting with our why is the primary motivator. It pulls us TOWARD what we want rather than constantly pushing AWAY from our fears of pain, frustration, or failure. Used properly, it’s a much more powerful force!
Get excited about accomplishing your dreams again. Watch Erin’s video. Erin is one of the sharpest women I know. She has worked with CEO’s for years and now she is sharing her knowledge with us.
Fabulous video, clear, concise. Love the idea of achievements without an exact deadline. It allows everything to flow without tension.
Thanks Kimberly :). Let’s go and let it flow!
Very Nice Erin! Love the concept and will be reading your blog and emails. Hugs.
Thanks Eddie :). Hugs to you too!
Wonderful rewrite of an old, limiting script, Erin. The words “realistic” and “timely” have always been my least favorite of the SMART concept. Oh and measurable! How do you measure “being the best husband to my queen” or “being a great dad”? 🙂 Those are two of my VFA – and financial freedom and building a business that totally transforms lives and helps people feel free, fulfilled, and alive!
Harmonizing with your Vivid Future Accomplishments, I enjoy dreaming up my Ideal Day (something I learned from two guys in the marketing world – Dean Jackson and Frank Kern). Instead of a goal, which we can’t really “live”, we envision our most magnificent day or week or lifestyle… What it’s like when our feet first touch the floor as we get out of bed in the morning… all the way to what going to bed is like.
You’re video is magnificent and I applaud you as you take each step toward your own VFA.
Thank Jim,
And you’re absolutely right… while we can identify qualities of our goals that give us the deeper structure to know when we’ve achieved them, sometimes those qualities aren’t “measurable.” There are no specific numbers that allow us to confirm it.
Rather, as our friend Niurka would say… How specifically will you know when you are “being a great dad”? What will you see, hear, or feel that let’s you confirm that you are achieving that outcome?
That’s why the “vivid” is important. It gives us not simply the surface structure of what we want, but the deeper experience that tells us specifically when we’ve accomplished it :).
Keep showing up as you do each day, and I know your VFA will unfold with ease and grace!
